According to The Wall Street Journal, Fisker Automotive Inc. has received $529 million in taxpayer money. The loan was intended to help Fikser produce a hybrid sports car to be sold in Finland. | VINELAND: KB Toys owner auctions off collection - Daily Journal Posted: 25 Sep 2009 04:54 AM PDT VINELAND One of the world's great toy collections is being auctioned off. KB Toy founder Donald Kaufman is selling thousands of the toys he's collected over the last half-century in a sale so big it's being broken up into several separate auctions in New Jersey. His collection of automotive toys will be on sale at Vineland's Bertoia Auctions today and Saturday. The 78-year-old Pittsfield, Mass., resident says he's selling because his daughters are not interested in inheriting toys. The first auction was held in March and netted more than $4 million in bids from toy collectors who flew in from around the world. | Northern Engraving to close tool shop - La Crosse Tribune Posted: 28 Sep 2009 10:02 PM PDT Sparta-based Northern Engraving Corp. says it plans to permanently close its Luxco Division tool shop at 2135 Enterprise Ave. in La Crosse because of significant and unanticipated decreases in sales and new tooling orders in the U.S. automotive and appliance industries. The La Crosse operation has 26 employees and makes tools and dies that are used by Northern Engraving's automotive and major appliance divisions' plants to manufacture items. Northern Engraving makes automotive trim and nameplates. A plant-closing notice Northern Engraving filed with state officials states 20 Luxco Division jobs tentatively are scheduled to be eliminated over two weeks starting Nov. 30. The six other jobs are to be eliminated over two weeks starting Jan. 18. The decision to close the Luxco Division was difficult but necessary to ensure the company's sustainability as it continues to adjust to current economic conditions and a changing business environment, Northern Engraving said in a press release. Northern Engraving said it will provide outplacement services and support to the affected workers, whom it described as highly skilled and dedicated. It also said the closing will not result in any interruption in services to its customers. "We're disappointed, obviously," said Rick Mickschl, Machinists District Lodge 66 directing business representative. His union represents hourly workers at the Luxco Division. "We understand the business climate and have a hugely experienced work force there," Mickschl said. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
