Bosch to invest $400 million in India - Fiji Live

Posted: 04 Jan 2010 03:02 PM PST

The Indian arm of German engineering giant Bosch said Monday it would invest more than 400 million dollars over two years to expand in the country's fast-growing diesel engine market.

"India is witnessing a strong increase in demand for diesel engines," the company, a major maker of diesel injection systems, said in a statement.

"The diesel engine consumes 30 percent less fuel than the gasoline engine, while common-rail technology reduces the pollutant emissions of diesel engines, thus making it possible to meet strict emission standards."

Bosch introduced common-rail fuel injection systems in India in 2006, the statement said, adding nearly a quarter of the new investment would be earmarked for research.

India is Asia's third-largest car market after China and Japan, where Japanese-owned Maruti Suzuki holds a commanding lead. Indian car sales are expected to cross two million units next year.

Bosch Automotive Group chairman Bernd Bohr told a press conference that sales in India grew by five percent to 68 billion rupees (1.4 billion dollars) in 2009.

India, which currently accounts for about five percent of the company's global auto business, is likely to account for seven to nine percent of its total auto business by 2017, he said.

"India is a very important market for us, and it has been profitable as well," Bohr added.

Regional rescuers head Ladislav Zabka said two other people suffered serious injuries while 13 were injured lightly.

LAS VEGAS & MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), a worldwide leader in high-performance intelligent semiconductor solutions for next-generation Internet networks, today announced that it will be demonstrating live broadcast of digital television (DTV) broadcast solutions using its ultra low-power Alchemy® processors at this week's International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2010 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Booth #35268. NetLogic Microsystems' demonstrations are based on multiple customer systems targeted at service provider and automotive deployments, and are compliant with the new ATSC-M/H standard for North America.

"We are excited to be demonstrating our industry-leading Alchemy processors on multiple ATSC-M/H platforms, as well as to announce our collaboration with LG, on the emerging market for broadcast digital TV in North America"

Matrix System Automotive Finishes has been selected by Discovery Channel's "Motor City Motors" as one of the suppliers for the show's season debut. The first episode aired on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 10:00 PM EST.

"Motor City Motors" features two brothers and founders of Detroit Brothers Custom Cycles, Jamie and Dave Kaye, who are highly acclaimed bike designers and builders.

Together they are on a mission to turn average vehicles into outrageous, never before seen contraptions, which include "The Gasser," "The Asphaulter" and "The Cornstalker" to name a few. Each week the show provides the guys five days to work their magic and produce a masterpiece while under fierce time constraints. Virginia Manufacturing Jobs Declined 7.1% Over Past Year - Yahoo Finance

Posted: 28 Dec 2009 07:18 AM PST

EVANSTON, Ill., Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Industrial employment in Virginia fell 7.1% over the past twelve months according to the 2010 Virginia Manufacturers Directory®, an industrial directory published annually by Manufacturers' News, Inc. (MNI) Evanston, IL. MNI reports Virginia lost 26,531 industrial jobs and 377 manufacturers between October 2008 and October 2009.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20070213/MNILOGO)

Manufacturers' News reports Virginia is now home to 6,854 manufacturers employing 347,940 workers, compared to a high of 440,261 jobs recorded by MNI in 2001. The loss of 26,000 manufacturing jobs over the past twelve months marks the sharpest year-to-year decline MNI has ever reported in the sixteen years it has been tracking the state's industry.

"As with the entire nation, the recession continues to hit Virginia's core sectors, while the faltering housing market has affected industries such as wood products, furniture and building products," says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912.

Transportation equipment manufacturing saw one of the largest drops in employment, down nearly 11%, according to MNI, due partially to layoffs at Volvo Trucks, International Automotive Components, and the closure of a JTEKT automotive plant. As a result, food products manufacturing has overtaken transportation equipment as the state's largest industrial sector, with 36,486 jobs, down 2.6% over the year. Transportation equipment now ranks second with 34,689 jobs.

All other industrial sectors in Virginia lost jobs within the past year and included primary metals, down 22.5%; due partially to the closure of a Reynolds Wrap plant in Richmond. Industrial machinery and equipment fell 17.9%; lumber/wood was down 15.3%; textiles/apparel down 11.2%; furniture/fixtures down 8.7%; paper products down 8.4%; fabricated metals down 6.8%; electronics down 6.5%; stone/clay/glass down 6.2%; rubber/plastics down 5.7% and chemicals down 5.1%.

Bright spots for the state include the opening of a First Fruits Beverage bottling facility in Marion, the joint investment of AREVA and shipbuilder Northrop Grumman to open a facility in Newport News, and the opening of auto components maker Westport Corp. in Roanoke.

MNI's city data shows Richmond is Virginia's top city for manufacturing employment, home to 35,008 jobs, down 5.9% over the year. Second-ranked Newport News accounts for 26,183 jobs, with employment down 2.6%. Industrial employment in Norfolk dropped 2.7% over the year and is currently home to 11,790 industrial workers. Roanoke accounts for 11,694 industrial jobs, down 7.1% over the year while Lynchburg accounts for 10,900 jobs, down 5.4%.

Detailed profiles of Virginia's 6,854 manufacturers and 1,227 industrial distributors can be found in the 2010 Virginia Manufacturers Directory®, available in print for $112 and on CD-ROM from $188. Each profile provides up to 30 facts, including vital contact information (phone, web, e-mail), 24,219 executives by name and title, product(s) manufactured, annual sales, number of employees, and more. Visitors to mnileads.com may generate custom profiles of manufacturers using thirteen different criteria, including area or zip code, county, SIC, sales volume, number of employees, and more.

Manufacturers' News, Inc., publisher of manufacturers' directories since 1912, compiles and produces manufacturing guides, statistics and databases for all 50 states. MNI also maintains IndustryNet.com, an industrial search engine designed specifically for locating manufacturers and suppliers nationwide.
