WINDSOR - John Chamberlain, owner of the Champion Automotive Group that closed last summer, has paid off $432,000 in liens on 31 trade-in vehicles, according to an attorney representing the auto group's five dealerships.

Craig Joyce, attorney with Denver-based Fairfield and Woods PC, said Chamberlain has paid off the liens that resulted in the suspension of his dealer's license on July 17.

Iron Mountain Autoplex, located at 871 Champion Drive in southwest Windsor, closed in August. The autoplex included Kia, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Chevrolet and Mazda dealerships. More than 100 employees were laid off by the closure.

A hearing is set for Jan. 26 to schedule the next step in the administrative process. Joyce said he was hopeful the matter could be resolved before then or before new hearings can be rescheduled that were supposed to be held in December but were postponed while a possible settlement was being worked out.
